Searching for real estate and homes for sale at Purgatory Resort in Colorado? Purgatory Resort, or Durango Mountain Resort, is 25 miles north of Durango on U.S. Highway 550. The resort offers some of the finest skiing in southwestern Colorado. Several private homes, townhouses and condos are available just steps from the ski lifts that are available to purchase. The area presents some of the state's most affordable ski resort real estate.

The resort has mountainside residences for sale on the west side of U.S. Highway 550 that are only a short walk to the slopes. Traditional, well-kept ski-in, ski-out properties at Purgatory start around $325,000 for a basic one- or two-bedroom unit with about 1,100 square feet of living space. Various condos and townhomes are available along Purgatory Boulevard, Needles Way, Sheol Street, and Gelande Way.
More recently updated condos are in the $475,000 range. These condos come fully furnished and turnkey. They are ideal as ski condos for personal use or investment. Many condos come with wood-burning fireplaces, private balconies, ski lockers, and covered parking. Condos also offer off-slope amenities like an owner's lounge, pool, hot tub, fitness center, tennis courts, game room and optional spa services. Many of the condos at the resort are rented out by the owners for additional income when they're not being used.

The east side of U.S. Highway 550 offers larger private homes that are only a short drive from the ski lifts. Residences for sale along Tacoma Drive, Travertine Trail and Snowden Drive offer newer construction and many amenities. A 2,000-square-foot, three-bedroom, three-bath single-family home in the desirable Black Bear development on Limestone Court is listed for approximately $1 million. It is right across the street from the ski area, and you can walk to hiking trails in the National Forest or nearby Twilight Lake.

A bit further south on U.S. Highway 550 is several undeveloped lots for sale off Engineer Drive, Vermillion Drive, Sultan Drive, and Storm Peak Drive. Lots here range from a quarter-acre to a half-acre and are priced in the $180,000 to $250,000 range. Premium lots with enhanced views can go for closer to $300,000.

A few top-shelf luxury homes are even further south on Pinnacle View Drive, Winterhawk Drive and Falcon Ridge Road. These stunning residences offer five or more bedrooms and over 5,000 feet of total living space. Larger estates here can exceed 8,000 square feet in living space. Homes here are anywhere from $2 million to $6 million, depending on age, amenities, location and views. You can buy a three-acre lot here to build a dream home for approximately $450,000. Some smaller lots are available for around $200,000.

Neighborhood Highlights:
Purgatory has more than 100 named trails and over 1,500 skiable acres. The summit is over 10,000 feet, with a vertical drop of more than 2,000 feet.
Purgatory has five terrain parks. The entire resort is serviced by a dozen ski lifts, including two high-speed quads. The resort gets about 260 inches of snow annually. The resort provides artificial snowmaking for about one-fifth of its runs.
